I became interested in dogs already in childhood as we had Finnish Spitzes. They needed a show result so I handled our dogs and became also interested in shows. We have had also Samoyeds and Siberian Huskies. When I studied there was a need for a smaller dog and by accident the choice was a Dachshund. I started breeding Long-haired Miniature Dachshund with prefix Rodels and I have got the Vuolasvirta-prize, the highest award of the Finnish Kennel Club for the results of successful breeding. In my breeding there are for exemple a couple of European and World Winners. I have been living and studying in Germany and my knowledge of German language has been of huge help with the German national breed. Even though my passion is Dachshunds, I am still very keen on Spitz breeds. So far I have judged in several European countries, also in World Dog Show in Milan and in many Dachshund specialities in several countries. At the moment I am the vize president of The Finnish Dachshundclub and chairman of the Dachshund Judge Committee. I find it extremely interesting to get to know new breeds. I am qualified to judge the group 4 and most of breeds in groups 5, 6 and 7. And now I have started to do groups 8 and 10. It will be very nice to judge in Kotka, my old hometown! Ville Meronen

BACKGROUND: I was born in 1966 in to a non doggy family but being an only child I longed for my parents to get a dog as I knew this would make the perfect companion for me. As my parents didn’t share my passion I was almost 17 years of age before my wish was granted and a cross breed dog was acquired. My first pure bred Dalmatian female came later after I had set up home on my own and then 3 years later I was introduced by a mutual friend to an already very successful Rough Collie breeder and pretty soon I was the new owner a Rough Collie female and co owner, along with my boyfriend at the time, of a male. The breeder in question was Denis Sabolic (DENNISAY'S Collies), who was then "only" the breeder of my first Collies but who later became my mentor, my friend and my partner. At the time of writing Denis and I have been together for 27 years and we share our home with our 6 year old twin boys, Filip & Aleksandar and 15 dogs. We continue breeding our Dennisay's-Geantles Collies and have bred or owned over 100 Champions in all three colours and both sexes including International, WORLD & EUROPEAN Champions. Our Collies were TOP DOGS 22 times, 18 years in a row. SHOWING: I began showing early in my canine career and my first Rough Collie male, MULTI CH. Dennisay's Forgery, who I mentioned earlier became one of TOP Collies in ex Yugoslavia. Together with Denis, we were the first handlers in the country and were part of a small international group of 4 professional handlers. We were pioneers in that profession in Europe and for 7 years I was showing dogs with great success, achieving wins with numerous TOP DOGS in their breeds, Groups and BIS winners all over Europe. I was one of the founders of the British Sheepdog Club Zagreb and a member of the Board for 5 years & President of the Breeding Committee. During this time, the club was the second biggest breed Club in Croatia with over 150 members. Today I am on the Board of our local KC near Zagreb, where we live now. Over the years I have been involved in organization of a couple of National and International shows with great success. Both Denis and I are holders of the GOLDEN MEDAL, one the highest awards given by the Croatian Kennel Club for our breeding & showing achievements and also for our overall contribution to Croatian cynology. JUDGING: I became a dog show judge in 1993. My first licensed breeds were British Sheepdogs. 10 years later I have finished the FCI Group I and FCI Group V. Today I am International FCI judge for FCI Group I, IV, V, IX and X with some additional breeds in the group II, III and VI. During these 23 years I have judged in 22 countries, including the Collie National in Melbourne, Australia, which was a great honour for me as a breeder. I am glad and honoured that as a judge I have some additional countries and Continents booked into my future Schedule. PHOTOGRAPHY: Photography is my another passion and last year we celebrated 20 years of DEYA PHOTOGRAPHY which is a name renowned throughout the World as being synonymous with excellent dog and cat photography - our photos can be found on all the continents in numerous magazines, books, coverings, adverts and one of them even found its place on the official pedigree form of Croatian Kennel Club for a couple of years. I have been also Assistant Editor of the Croatian Kennel Club Magazine "Moj Pas", Art director of some other Magazines and owner & Editor of Dog Vision Magazine, previous DEYA Photography Catalogue, since 2007. Regular articles and photographs have appeared in the world famous OUR DOGS newspaper, in print and online. We have been official photographers at many National & International shows including 3 World and 2 European Dog Shows so far. Erika Häkkinen
